Bank of Scotland totalART
In summer 2007 Bank of Scotland totalART, a new and exciting partnership with the National Galleries of Scotland, was launched. The partnership is the biggest ever sponsorship of modern art in Scotland.
During the two year series, two modern art exhibitions will be held at the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh. One of the key aims of Bank of Scotland totalART is to ensure that modern art reaches the widest possible audience. Bank of Scotland work in partnership with the National Galleries of Scotland to provide creative and inspirational educational experiences for over 14,000 young people across Scotland.
Bank of Scotland totalART was launched in 2007 with the critically acclaimed Andy Warhol exhibition. The Warhol exhibition attracted over 95,000 visitors with an additional 8,000 young people participating in the education programme. The education programme included a children's gallery with paintings hung at child height, the Warhol Factory where families could recreate Warhol inspired art and the use of new technology such as podcasts devised and produced by young people.
Gerhard Richter, Kerze 1982
The second part of the series, which runs from 8 November 2008 until 4 January 2009, is a major exhibition of the work of German artist Gerhard Richter who many see as one of the most important artist of our time.
As a young artist Richter produced work which not only contributed towards the rejuvenation of painting in Germany but which also, through the artist’s use of printed media, provided an equivalent to some of the concerns of American Pop Art. It is therefore most appropriate that this exhibition, devoted to one of the greatest living post-war artists, follows the Andy Warhol exhibition.
An inspiring education programme will be delivered alongside the Richter exhibition and entry for under 22's is free.
In May 2008 Bank of Scotland won the Sponsorship Excellence Award from the Marketing Society of Scotland for our sponsorship of the Andy Warhol exhibition. In November 2008, Bank of Scotland totalART series was highly commmended in the business to consumer category at the European Sponsorship Awards.
