HBOS Group Sponsorship

Our approach to sponsorship activity is one of community focus and partnership.  We believe in creating meaningful relationships with partners that deliver real benefits to our customers, our colleagues and the wider community.

HBOS's award winning programme of sponsorship invests in sports and arts sponsorships based in our heartlands of Scotland and Yorkshire.  Our aim is to increase access to sport and the arts for young people, creating educational and inspirational experiences thorugh our partnerships.  Since 2002, we have more than trebled the number of young people involved in our sponsored activities.

Our objectives:

  • Create opportunities for young people to become involved in sport or the arts
  • Create opportunities for colleagues to volunteer and experience our sponsorships
  • Demonstrate our commitment to communities, customers and colleagues in Scotland and Yorkshire

 

In 2008, we will:

  • Create over 75,000 opportunities for young people to take part in activities supported by Bank of Scotland and Halifax
  • Ensure that over 65% of those young people come from socially disadvantaged areas
  • Support 4,500 colleagues as they experience some aspect of our sponsorship activities
  • Demonstrate our commitment to Scotland and Yorkshire

Measurement and Review

Such a large commitment needs regular review and clear measurement.  The HBOS board reviews sponsorship strategy every three years and Group Communications review key decisions as needed. Our sponsorship portfolio is tested against these benchmarks annually:

  • Deliver positive press coverage of at least double our investment
  • Ensure that over 65% of young people come from socially disadvantaged areas
  • Measure colleague support for our sponsorship activities
  • Measure political support for our sponsorship activities using an annual MORI survey

Sponsorship Selection and Criteria

We draw a very clear distinction between sponsorship and community giving.  The latter is about helping communities through charitable activity and is directed by the HBOS Foundation  

Although we are committed to many things within sports and the arts, we are unable to support every opportunity. Consequently we have a very strict criteria for sponsorship selection.  The following list provides an indication of the types of projects and events we are unlikely to support.

  • Individuals, individual clubs, teams or societies
  • Fundraising events for charities
  • Religious, political or medical activity
  • Individual venues, buildings or refurbishment programmes
  • Overseas activities or projects
  • Conferences, publications, videos, films, recordings or website development
