Diversity & Inclusion: Celebrating Success

Our Colleague Commitment Booklet This link opens in a new window   highlights just some of the outstanding work that HBOS is doing in the field of Diversity and Inclusion. From the award winning efforts of colleagues to the personal commitment of the Chief Executive, we are all striving to make HBOS a great place to work for everyone.

This year's Colleague Opinion Survey showed significant increases in colleagues' understanding of the importance of diversity within HBOS and in their individual roles. The survey also reported major improvements for colleagues across the board feeling valued and respected.

In addition to measuring success internally through the use of regular colleague opinion surveys and inclusion audits, another way we measure our success is by taking part in a number of selected external benchmarking events. The benchmarks are run by independent organisations that focus on specific areas of the diversity agenda.

The latest FTSE100 Senior Women Report This link opens in a new window, ranked HBOS 5th on senior female representation throughout the FTSE100 companies.  With a 25% female board, HBOS has one Executive female and three Non Executive Directors.

Stonewall's Workplace Equality Index (WEI) This link opens in a new window benchmarks and showcases Britain's top 100 employers for lesbian, gay and bisexual employees.  Over 200 organisations entered the 2008 workplace index and for the fourth year running HBOS featured in the top 100, rising from 77th in 2007 to 43rd place.  This places HBOS 3rd in Stonewall's list of Top Ten Retail Financial companies, an improvement from 4th in last year's results.

HBOS was the second top employer in Scotland and one of only three Scottish headquartered organisations to make the top 100.

Opportunity Now This link opens in a new window benchmarking survey is the UK's most extensive survey on gender equality and diversity in the workplace. Regular participation in this survey helps us to:

· Monitor progress on gender and diversity

· Compare progress with other organisations

· Share best practice

The latest benchmarking survey was completed at the end of 2005 and HBOS achieved GOLD Status.

Race for Opportunity (RfO) This link opens in a new window is a growing network of private and public sector organisations working across the UK to promote the business case for race and diversity. The RfO benchmarking survey measures member organisations' performance and progress across the four key areas of the RfO programme: employment, marketing to ethnic minorities, engaging ethnic minority businesses in the supply chain and community involvement.

In 2005, over 100 organisations representing over 1.6 million employees took part in the benchmark. HBOS was placed 5th overall and received the GOLD award.
