Born in 1945, Dennis was appointed a Director of Halifax in May 1999 and became Chairman in July of that year. Following the merger of Bank of Scotland and Halifax in September 2001, Dennis became Chairman of HBOS plc. He is Chairman of the House of Lords Appointments Commission and Chancellor of the University of the Arts London, a Non-executive Director of Western Union Group and President of the Employers' Forum on Age.
