Services available
Group Archives provides the following services for external customers:
- Historical enquiries service
Enquiries can be directed to the Archives by telephone, fax or e-mail (see Contact Information ). - Dormant Account enquiries
A record of all Bank of Scotland dormant accounts which were transferred prior to 1978 is held by the Archives. This includes accounts from the British Linen Bank and the Union Bank, in addition to those from Bank of Scotland. See Contact Information for details of how to get in touch. - Searchroom facilities
Limited spaces are available to researchers wishing to consult archive documents. See also Access details below.
Access
Visits to the archives are strictly by appointment, between 10.00 and 16.00 hours Monday to Friday (excluding Bank and public holidays).
Access to the archives shall be at the absolute discretion of the Archivist. No access will be granted to customer records less than 100 years old or to other records less than 30 years old, except with special permission.
An Application for Access form must be completed and returned to the Archivist prior to your visit. Please read this form carefully and observe its restrictions.

Location and travel arrangements
HBOS Group Archives Department is located in Edinburgh at Sighthill, 6 miles west of the city centre. Bus numbers 3, 3A, 25, and 34 run from Princes Street to the Bankhead roundabout (about 30 minutes). The Archives is a 10 minute walk from there (see map below).
Alternatively the Bathgate and Dunblane train services from Edinburgh Waverley and Haymarket both stop at Edinburgh Park (approximately 10 minutes). The station is situated at the end of Bankhead Drive (just off top left corner of map). Again, the Archives is a 10 minute walk away from here.
Limited space is available in the car park but there is also on-street car parking.
The searchroom is fully accessible to wheel chair users.
Documents may not be removed from the searchroom but photocopies may be permitted, at the discretion of the Archivist.
There is no canteen on site, but tea and coffee facilities are available.
